Quentin Tarantino Wants To Adapt Len Deighton’s Spy Novels

Quentin Tarantino is probably my favorite director working today. His work is unique, highly-stylized, and draws from the same inspirations and genres I hold dear So I’m bound to love his movies.
I feel Tarantino is also one of the most versatile directors around, able to turn his hand to any genre you care to throw at him, though he will take years researching and absorbing influences before diving in.
Tarantino is currently promoting his new movie, Inglourious Basterds, and recently spoke to The Sun newspaper about the film and other topics. During the interview, Tarantino spoke of his love for the U.K. and mentioned how he’d love to adapt the novels of British author Len Deighton. He said:
“I love England. It would be a wonderful life experience to have an excuse to work here for six or nine months. One of the things I enjoy musing about doing is the trilogy of Len Deighton books, Berlin Game, Mexico Set and London Match.”
“The story takes place in the Cold War and follows a spy named Bernard Samson. What is attractive is the really great characters and the wonderful opportunities of British and German casting.”
Deighton may not be a household name but most people will have heard of The Ipcress File, which was turned into a movie starring Michael Caine. The trilogy of novels Tarantino mentioned were published in the 1980s and have already been turned into a television series.
I’d love to see Tarantino adapt the Bernard Samson trilogy of novels because I think he’d do a cracking job with them. I’ve always wondered what a Tarantino-directed Bond film would be like and maybe this could provide the answer.
