‘Pride And Prejudice And Zombies’ Movie On Way?

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a new novel due out in April that basically meshes the classic Jane Austen novel with, well, zombies. And guess what, according to The Times, Hollywood is already eying the reinvented story as a brilliant idea for a movie. Well they would wouldn’t they.

Seth Grahame-Smith is the man behind the book, a book which is now anyone’s to do with what they want after falling out of copyright. Fans of the original may not be happy to see Elizabeth Bennet and her four sisters now slaying zombies while being taught by their mentor Mr. Darcy.

Grahame-Smith said:

“It quickly became obvious that Jane [Austen] had laid down the blueprint for a zombie novel. Why else in the original should a regiment arrive on Lizzie Bennet’s doorstep when they should have been off fighting Napoleon? It was to protect the family from an invasion of brain-eaters, obviously.”

Grahame-Smith claims a movie deal is almost done. And I actually think Hollywood may be on to a winner. It really depends what they do with the property - it could be a Shaun of The Dead-style intelligent comedy or a Meet The Spartans-style piss take. I personally favor the former.

This is also unlikely to be the last classic novel to be altered and then turned into a film. Talent agencies are apparently already working on new versions of Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre, though whether zombies will be involved in either isn’t yet clear.

It’s not April 1 is it? Just checking.
