‘Police Academy 8’ On Way – Please, No More!

Is it Steve Guttenberg season or something? We’ve already heard him talk about revisiting one former movie series with the upcoming Three Men and a Bride, and now he’s banging on about returning to the Police Academy series for an eighth movie in the long-running, and painfully unfunny franchise.

He tells The Sun that the movie is definitely on the cards, and all the old stars are being asked to appear in the new movie. This even includes Kim Cattrall and Sharon Stone who made their names in the first few films before going on to have huge careers.

“We are doing a new movie and it is going to be great fun. A script is being written and so far it is really great, everyone from the original movies who is still around will return.”

“I know Kim and Sharon have been asked but they haven’t said yes yet. It would be really great to have them on board.”

“I loved doing the Police Academy films. They gave me so much opportunity, and I’ve got nothing but good memories of that time.”

Now, let’s be fair, the first two films were actually quite decent, although if you watch them now, they haven’t exactly aged well. But the series was strung out to seven films, probably four too many. The later films are some of the worst movies ever made, although with Guttenberg sensibly leaving after Police Academy 4, he can hardly take the blame for those.

If this is billed as Police Academy 8 then I will stay well away. But bizarrely, if it was re-billed as something else, and starred some new, younger actors as well as the old mainstays, I’d probably be tempted to go and see it. That is, of course, if it ever actually gets made. Which I wouldn’t say is 100% sure at this stage.
