Peter Berg To Direct New Version Of ‘Dune’ - Not Another Remake!

Even though there has already been two versions of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel Dune, there’s due to be yet another one made, and soon, as Paramount Pictures have hired Peter Berg to direct a new big screen adaptation.

Herbert’s novel, originally written in 1965 tells the story of the power struggle for control of remote desert planet Arrakis. The planet is important as the empire’s sole source of the spice Melange, which is needed for distant space travel.

The best known adaptation up to now is the David Lynch directed movie of the same name, which starred Sting as well as a host of others. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite the hit the studios expected it to be, so another crack of the whip is being had.

There was also a Sci Fi Channel miniseries based on the book made in the year 2000 starring William Hurt.

The project was actually announced at the end of last year but due to the writers strike was put on hold. According to Variety, the call has now gone out for writers, with the makers said to be keen for a faithful adaptation of the book.
