Paul Reubens Talks Next “Pee-Wee Herman” Movie

Pee-Wee Herman consults with the director of "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure," a very young Tim Burton.

ComingSoon caught up with Paul Reubens, one of the voice artists for the upcoming animated TV series “Tron Uprising.” Being Paul Reubens, the conversation quickly turned to Pee-Wee Herman, and the status of the long-talked about movie featuring the character. Good news if you’ve been waiting:

“That’s any minute, supposedly,” he said. “…It’s going great. We have a meeting this coming week. We just did a very quick little rewrite on it. As far as I know it’s getting shot very soon.”

Reubens wrote the screenplay with Paul Rust and Judd Apatow is producing, which means it will be about three hours long.

Like many people, I liked “Pee-Wee’s Playhouse.” I can still crack myself up (and probably no one else) by quoting from the movie “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure” (I still haven’t seen “Big Top Pee-Wee,” I must admit). I have been glad to see Reubens’s career revival and thought the live “Pee-Wee’s Playhouse” stage show a year or two ago was a great idea. All that being said, I have no interest in a new movie. I’d rather just leave things as they are. Oh well, I can’t blame them for trying. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
