Pattinson on His Non-”Twilight” Career

Say…is RPattz going to play that piano?

Robert Pattinson talked to MTV about how trying to choose movies outside the cozy confines of “Twilight” has been challenging. As he notes, he’s only done other major-sized movie outside of “Twilight”–the yet to be released “Remember Me.” He’s booked for “Bel Ami,” based on the Guy de Maupassant novel; Uma Thurman and Kristen Scott Thomas also star.

Then he’s set for “Unbound Captives,” a  Western which is supposed to star Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman. It’s about a boy and girl who are abductd by the Comanche and their mother (Weisz) spends years looking for them; when she finds the now-grown kids (this is where Pattinson takes over the role, I would presume), they are completely Comanche and have no concept of being white Americans. Yes, it does sound a lot like “The Searchers.”

Interestingly, he was cast in that pre-”Twilight,” but the producers are just waiting to get everyone’s schedules together. Pattinson talked about how expectations of him have changed since “Twilight”:

“Before ‘Twilight’ I did any movie that I got [offered], and you’d try and make the best of it afterward,” he explained. “But now you’re expected to come into the movie and provide not only economic viability, but also a performance as well. You can’t just mess around. People are like ‘We’re employing you to be here, as a star and an actor.’ It’s difficult, and it’s scary.”

One would have thought that second sentence should read “…provide not only a performance, but also economic viability as well.” But we’ll let our boy Rob get by with that, because to be honest, producers now probably do expect him to boost ticket sales, acting be damned. Just stand there and look pretty, Rob.
