Yes, there's more.
It should come as no surprise to anyone that “Paranormal Activity 5″ has been confirmed, after the fourth film in the franchise opened at number one this weekend. Sure, it may not have had the big numbers of the last two movies, but it still put up an excellent showing, especially considering the budget, and that’s enough to get a green light for a fifth movie. Jason Blum and Oren Pell will produce for a Halloween 2013 release date.
More interesting, though, is news from Deadline that Paramount is also planning a Latino spinoff of the series for a spring 2013 date. There always has been a high percentage of Latinos in the audience for the “Paranormal Activity” movies, so this will be directly targeted at them. Deadline says, “The spinoff will include the demon from the PA franchise and star mostly Latino actors and film partly in Spanish.” Their Paramount source also says, ”This will be an off-shoot aimed at the groups who have been the biggest supporters of the property – Latinos and folks in Latin America – Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina.” No spoiler to mention that there’s a teaser for this project at the end of the current movie. Christopher Landon (yes, son of Michael Landon) will direct; it’s unclear if he’s writing the script as well (he wrote 2007′s “Disturbia,” which actually has a very interesting legal history attached to it; big-time lawsuits there). This could be a way to boost up the franchise in other markets, as it begins to flag in the U.S.
