Sony Pictures has announced that they are planning a 3D concert film about the British teen pop boy band One Direction. The release is set for August 30, 2013, so it’s a last blast of summer occasion for all those little girls who hopefully won’t have moved on to other things by then.
The movie will be directed by Morgan Spurlock, the documentarian behind “Supersize Me” and “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.” Here’s what he had to say about the project:
“This is an incredible opportunity and an amazing moment in time for the band. To capture this journey and share it with audiences around the world will be an epic undertaking that I am proud to be a part of.”
I’m guessing there may be plenty of people out there who see “One Direction” and “Morgan Spurlock” paired together and think, “That doesn’t make sense.” All I’ll say is that many things in life do not make sense.
Simon Cowell, whose “X-Factor” tv show is where the band was discovered, said this:
“I’m delighted we’re making this film and Morgan is the perfect person to give that access-all-areas, behind-the-scenes look into what it’s like to be One Direction today. What the band have achieved is incredible, they and their fans have made history around the world – this is for them.”
One Direction consists of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. To be honest, I’ve seen them and don’t think they’re particularly cute as far as boy bands go, but hey, I’m not the target demographic. So, good luck to them. Grab your moment while it’s there, boys. And all you fans, mark August 30, 2013 on your calendar with a nice big heart.
