I’ll come right out and say it. I have no interest in the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” I didn’t watch the TV show when it was on. I didn’t watch any of the movies when they came out. I do not have plans to see the new version from Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes company.
All that said, I understand that there are a lot of people who do love the turtles and are eager to see the latest take on them. So with that in mind, we have news about the remake from Michael Bay himself.
Stuff We Like has video of Bay speaking this weekend at the Nickelodeon 2012 Upfront at Lincoln Center in Manhattan. ComingSoon had the patience to watch and capture this quote, which reveals a drastic (so I gather) change in the TMNT origin story:
When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable.”
From what I understand, the sticking point is the “aliens” part, meaning they’re not mutant…hmmm. This sounds like the kind of thing that could upset a fan base.
Jonathan Liebesman will direct a script written by Josh Appelbaum, Andrew Nemec, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and John Fusco. Wow, that is a veritable army of writers. The film will be released on December 25, 2013.
