George W. Bush’ time as president of the United States of America is thankfully coming to an end. And I’m saying that as a Brit! But thanks to director Oliver Stone, this won’t be the last we see of who is regarded as the worst president the States has ever had the misfortune of electing.
He is busy working on W, a biopic of the soon to be ex-president’s life, which is due for release at the end of this year, or early in 2009. He recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the movie, in which he defended the idea of the biopic, and tried to assure us that we will find some interest in it. According to Digital Spy, he said:
“Bush may turn out to be the worst president in history but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a great story. It’s almost Capra-esque, the story of a guy who had very limited talents in life, except for the ability to sell himself.
“The fact that he had to overcome the shadow of his father and the weight of his family name – you have to admire his tenacity.”
It’s strange because I kind of agree with him. I really don’t have much interest in watching films about successful, and highly regarded presidents, but I will probably go and see the biopic on Bush just to see for myself how an idiot became the leader of the western world.
The film stars Josh Brolin as Bush and Scrubs star Elizabeth Banks as First Lady Laura, with Paul Giamatti, Thandie Newton, Rob Corddry, James Cromwell, Ellen Burstyn and Ioan Gruffudd also having now joined the cast.
