Bruce Lee: Cooler than you.

Variety reports that the story of Bruce Lee’s life is coming to the big screen. The three-part film is being made with the cooperation of Lee’s family. China’s A.J. Media Group is producing. Manfred Wong is directing. Tony Leung Ka-Fai will play Lee’s father, but there is no word yet on who will play the legendary martial arts star–despite the fact that filming is set to begin in October, with a release date of November 27, 2010, the date that Lee would have turned 70. Lee died in 1973 at age 32, just as he was becoming an international film star.

The key to this project is the family’s involvement. Robert Lee, Bruce’s brother said at the press conference in Beijing that “he wanted to give an authoritative account of his brother’s life…We’ve read many books and seen many movies about Bruce Lee, but there are many inaccuracies in them.”

The trilogy aspect is pretty interesting. I guess there’s a lot of info out there to tell. Oh, and at the press conference they also announced that a Bruce Lee museum is being built in his native Hong Kong. The Variety article didn’t say when that will open, but keep it in mind when you’re planning your Hong Kong vacation over the next few years.

Bruce Lee at 70…can you imagine? I suspect that he would have been one of those old men who could kick the ass of a hotshot 20 year old. Or at least that’s what I like to think.
