Of Course Crispin Glover is in Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’

Only Crispin Glover could get away with being photographed on a boysenberry background like that.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Crispin Glover has joined the cast of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Glover will play the Knave of Hearts, who is put on trial for stealing the Queen of Hearts’s tarts, and is defended by Alice. Helena Bonham Carter is playing the Queen of Hearts and Mia Wasikowska is playing Alice. Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway are also in the cast.

It makes so much sense for the chronically odd Glover to be in an Alice in Wonderland movie–not to mention the Tim Burton part–that it would have been more strange if the movie had been made without him. If Crispin Glover didn’t exist, Lewis Carroll (the talented Reverend Dodgson) might have invented him. My only quarrel is that I would have cast him as the White Rabbit, or maybe the White Knight instead. But nevertheless, it all works.

The film will be a mix of live action and motion capture. It’s currently shooting in England.
