Now picture it with a sex change.
So we’ve written a few times lately about a female “Expendables” type movie. Produced by a company called 1984 Private Defense Contractors, the film has already signed up Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff to star. Dutch Southern is writing a screenplay.
Well, get ready for a scramble for female action talent. Now we have word from Deadline that Millenium Films, the studio behind the actual “Expendables” movies is planning to make “The ExpendaBelles.” They’ve got “Legally Blonde” writers Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith working on a screenplay. The idea is to launch a franchise showing the female side of the mercenary business, with “actresses who’ve logged time in action films over the years, much the same way that “The Expendables” team is comprised of action film staples.”
(Let’s just take a moment to note that “The ExpendaBelles” is a terrible title.)
There are a lot of actresses that have made forays into action, but few who have made it their sole genre. And some of the biggest stars who’ve done action don’t want to make what is essentially a high-class B movie. Do you think Angelina Jolie will sign up for this? I don’t. So it will be interesting to see if they can get any big name stars, or if one of these projects will fall by the wayside….
