No Shatner Cameo In J.J. Abrams ‘Star Trek’

Captain Kirk is dead right? Or at least the old one played by William Shatner is. The new younger version played by Chris Pine in J.J. Abrams new re-imagining of the Star Trek empire is alive and well. But would it have been possible to at least have Shatner playing a bit part in the new Star Trek?

A couple of weeks ago, Abrams claimed he tried desperately to make Shatner part of the film in a cameo role. They tried to fit him in, but it seems Shatner wanted a bigger part than was being offered to him. So in the end, it all came to nothing, and Shatner is nowhere to be seen.

Shatner has now responded to Abrams claims in a YouTube video embedded below. In it, he claims to have never actually been approached about a cameo role. Not that he would have taken it anyway you understand…

This is all very bizarre and I don’t actually know who to believe. The thing is, why would Abrams lie about it? Plus, even that video, it seems as though Shatner was after more than just a brief cameo, and instead wanted his Captain Kirk brought back to life, even though the new Star Trek is set years before he actually dies.

Shatner, get over it and move on. You’re not the only Kirk on the block so just leave it. I actually think the new Star Trek movie will benefit from being a complete reboot with no throwbacks to the past. And I trust Abrams implicitly. The man who created Lost can do no wrong in my eyes.

  • No throwbacks? Well, don’t go see this version of Trek - Leonard Nimoy abounds as pointy eared Spock.

And the fact that you admit you care for “Lost” and have been stupified by Abrams into watching anything that show has delivered post-2nd season suggests you must be under the influence of one of Khan’s “not-quite domesticated” brain-worms.
