New National Lampoon’s Vacation Coming Soon - Rusty Griswold The New Dad

National Lampoon’s Vacation

I love a good comedy, and for me there is none better than the National Lampoon’s Vacation movies. I mean it. Genuinely. They’re sweet, homely, silly, very funny, and most importantly, you don’t have to think too much while you’re watching them.

I have fond memories of both National Lampoon’s Vacation and European Vacation. And I still watch Christmas Vacation every December without fail. I admit that I’ve never seen either Vegas Vacation or Christmas Vacation 2 but then I don’t think many people have.

And now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, there’s to be a new film in the series. Rather than a reboot, it’ll be a bona fide sequel, only with a swapping around of the characters to reflect the time that has passed.

Rusty Griswold will now be the dad, with Clark and Ellen the grandparents. Rusty will now be all grown up with a family of his own. And he decides to take them on a vacation of their own, with the earlier films alluded and referred to.

New Line is developing the movie, with David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) attached to produce and direct. Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, and the rest of the original Griswold family aren’t yet attached but that has surely got to be the intention.

I think this could work, but the script and storyline would need to be solid.
