‘Mummy 4’ To Relocate To Latin America

The Mummy 4 Relocating

With The Mummy 3, or The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor out now and doing relatively good business, attention has turned to a possible fourth film in the series. But with the films having been set in Egypt and China, where else is there to visit?

The third film’s director, Rob Cohen, has spoken to MTV Movies about the possibility of a fourth film in the franchise, a film that both Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello are reportedly fighting to be made. His biggest concern wasn’t the plot, storyline, or characters, but more about the location. He said:

“What I’m really happy about is that, by taking ‘The Mummy’ out of Egypt and putting it in China, by exploring a different approach to the quest for immortality, we now have it clear that the ‘Mummy’ franchise can travel. Now we know that if we want to go to Mexico or we want to go to Peru, we can because there’s a cultural truth there of the mummies and these beautiful cultures.”

“They have a lot of mummies. The Aztec culture had a lot of mummies and some of their mummy designs for the Foundation Army were taken from Mexican mummies that they have found. So I think that somehow that might make the basis of a good story.”

So Latin America it is, though it could end up being either Mexico or Peru. The problem I foresee is that The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor has been getting some poor reviews, with many feeling the series has lost its way. While that won’t be just because of the change of setting, it could have a lot to do with it.

Rather than going on a global tour, I can’t help feeling that any new Mummy movie would benefit from going back to basics. This means moving back to Egypt and getting Brendan Fraser to kick some long dead Mummy’s posterior. That’s all we want at the end of the day right?
