MTV Names Top 10 2009 Blockbusters

Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince

2009 is shaping up to be a bumper year for movie blockbusters, with many future classic on their way over the next 12 months. MTV Movies recently tried to make sense of the plethora of upcoming releases by listing its Top Ten Blockbusters of 2009.

10. 2012
9. G.I. Joe: Rise Of Cobra
8. Public Enemies
7. Monsters Vs. Aliens
6. Angels and Demons
5. Up
4. Terminator: Salvation
3. Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen
2. Avatar
1. Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince

It’s a bit of a strange list actually because there are some movies on there that I have absolutely no interest in seeing. And while I know my opinion doesn’t count for much, I’m a sucker for a mainstream, play-it-safe action flick. So if I’m not interested you can be quite sure there’ll be lots of other people uninterested too.

Public Enemies looks brilliant, and I’ve been waiting for Angels and Demons to be released ever since reading the book by Dan Brown straight after I finished The Da Vinci Code. Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen and Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince are going to be must-sees as well. But what about the rest?

Some will do well, such as Avatar and Up but I don’t think the success of the others is that assured. G.I. Joe could be one hero movie too far, while am I the only one who lost interest in the Terminator franchise after number two?

And where are Star Trek and X Men: Wolverine? Surely two of the biggest films due out in the next 12 months. I suppose them not being on the list proves the wealth of good movies we have to look forward to for the rest of this year. My local cinema should do good business.
