Morgan Freeman and Elizabeth Banks Join “LEGO: The Piece of Resistance”

By Kirsten Anderson Casting

Elizabeth Banks will try to sound like a LEGO.

Still skeptical about that LEGO movie? Morgan Freeman and Elizabeth Banks aren’t; according to Deadline, they’re joining the voice cast of “LEGO: Piece of Resistance.” Chris Pratt and Will Arnett are already cast, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller directing.

Warner Brothers is intent on keeping as much secrecy around this as possible, especially from the eight year olds who read the trades, so there isn’t a lot of information about who these actors will be playing, other than that Freeman will play a character called “Vitruvius.” You can go a lot of directions with that one. There’s also word that Will Arnett will play a mini-LEGO version of Batman and rumors that Channing Tatum will voice a . Well, it is WB.

Here’s the plot: “an ordinary Lego mini-figure, mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary MasterBuilder, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil Lego tyrant from gluing the universe together.”

[Dear Deadline: I'm pretty sure LEGO is all caps.]

I guess Chris Pratt is playing the lead mini-figure.

That description of the plot doesn’t sound particularly great,  but Lord and Miller have a pretty impressive track record: “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and “21 Jump Street.” So hopefully they can elevate the material. It should look good, at least.

“LEGO: The Piece of Resistance” will be released on February 28, 2014.
