David Yates may direct the Lord of the Jungle.
Yes, we have news about Directors Who Are In Talks. And if they’re talking, then you know what happens next? They’ll soon be directing! Especially if the money’s right.
Deadline tells us that:
- David Yates may be tasked with the latest revitalization of “Tarzan,” at Warner Brothers where he’s beloved for his success with the Harry Potter movies. Who should star? Well, the most popular Tarzan movies from the 1930s chose Olympic swimmers Johnny Weissmuller and Buster Crabbe to play the role of the jungle raised man who wore as little clothes as allowed by the Production Code. Maybe we’ll end up with Ryan Lochte swinging through the jungle.
- Meanwhile, Christopher McQuarrie, beloved at Paramount for his presumed success with the upcoming “Jack Reacher” starring Tom Cruise, is in talks to direct “Without Remorse,” an adaptation of the Tom Clancy novel. It focuses on “Clark the mercenary” who was played by Willem Defoe in the Jack Ryan movie “Clear and Present Danger.” So I guess he’s in the “Jack Ryan universe.” I swear, I saw “Clear and Present Danger” and totally don’t remember Willem Dafoe. Oh well. In “Without Remorse,” Clark is a Navy SEAL turned CIA operative who is bent on revenge after a drug dealer kills his girl.
We’ll see how or if this progresses; it seems like that Tarzan movie has been in development for a very long time.
