Kick-Ass 2 is to shoot this summer, even though the last we heard the project was in trouble. With writer Jane Goldman and director Matthew busy on other projects it looked as though Kick-Ass 2 was being put on the back-burner. Not so, says comic author Mark Millar.
The revelation as to when Kick-Ass 2 is going to be made came in the middle of an interview with The Daily Record. Millar was discussing American Jesus when he said:
“If you are doing a movie about the return of Jesus as the Bible prophesied in the Book of Revelation, you have got to do it straight and treat it with dignity. I’m not taking the p*ss. It will be treated like a proper film. A lot of people are surprised because much of my work is irreverent and expect the same with American Jesus. But I want it to be a beautiful film.”
“We shoot Kick-Ass 2 and American Jesus this summer. Then Matthew and I have Secret Service, which is a neddy James Bond.”
“We came up with this idea of a wee ned who becomes a gentleman spy, ditching his trainers for his Savile Row suits and being taught how to speak properly. The reason he gets chosen is that a guy like that is disposable. I am a massive Bond fan and Secret Service is like My Fair Lady meets James Bond. I am halfway through the comic and Matthew and I are halfway through the script.”
The last paragraph details Secret Service, another comic that looks likely to become a movie directed by Matthew Vaughn. These guys seem to be pumping out the hits at quite a pace, although I’m not convinced the U.S. market is yet sold on Kick-Ass.
It looks like Kick-Ass 2 is going ahead despite this, but I’d be suspicious of taking anything too seriously until the studio make an official announcement. They should get a move on though, or Chloe Moretz will surely be too old to play Hit Girl in the sequel.
