Miley Cyrus to Star in Movie. Sigh.

Miley Cyrus wants to get dramatic.

Variety brings word today that Miley Cyrus is planning to star in a movie written by Nicholas Sparks. The prolific author will work on the novel and the screenplay simultaneously.

Cyrus reportedly wants to “broaden her image” and “transition to adult fare.” This makes some sense in that it’s obvious she and her formerly tween audience are outgrowing each other, and Disney is not so subtley grooming others to take her place. On the other hand, let me give you a piece of advice, kid–don’t be in such a hurry to grow up. Trust me on this one.

The project came about when Cyrus met with Disney execs to talk about upcoming projects, and mentioned A Walk to Remember, the Sparks-based drama that Mandy Moore used to to try to break out of her bubblegum pop persona. Sparks was contacted and came back with an idea everyone liked. No details on the plot other than that Cyrus won’t sing and it will “touch on” family and romance.

Here are some things the movie probably won’t be about:

  • factory workers fighting for their right to organize
  • corruption in the LAPD
  • a scrappy, underdog high school chess team
  • the space program
  • the invention of the personal computer
  • a gang of criminals trying to pull off one last big score
  • international espionage
  • rivalry between cable tv installers in a small town
  • fish
  • the Prague Spring

But that leaves plenty of other material. Knock yourself out, Nick.
