Microsoft Still Wants ‘Halo’ Movie

Halo Movie

Halo: Reach is almost upon us, with the fourth full installment of the insanely popular game series coming to Xbox 360 on September 14. And although there are no plans for any more games, Halo could live on thanks to merchandising and a possible movie spin-off.

A movie based on Halo has been due for some time. Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp were on board to bring it to life a few years ago before they walked away to make the excellent District 9 instead.

April brought news that a Halo movie was still a possibility, with Microsoft Game Studios’ franchise development director Frank O’Connor insisting the project hadn’t vanished when the last attempt ground to a halt. Now O’Connor has spoken to Variety, expanding on his earlier comments. He said:

“We’re still interested in making an excellent Halo movie. We’ve created an awful lot of documentation and materials to support a feature film. We have a good idea of what kind of story we want to tell, but won’t move on it until there’s a great reason to do it. We’re in no particular hurry.”

I’m guessing a great reason to do it would be when the public actually call for a Halo movie. Which will likely be in a couple of years when those who have got used to a new title being released every couple of years get withdrawal symptoms.

I’d personally love to see a Halo movie, but there’s always the risk it will be utter crap, thus ruining the reputation of the franchise as a whole. Which would be a crying shame.
