I may have just given away all the news in this post’s title. Variety reports that Michael Mann will direct a script he wrote with Morgan Davis Foehl. Chris Hemsworth is said to be attached to star in the thriller set “in a world of cyber threats and attacks.”
It feels like it’s been a while since Mann has been definitively involved in any big screen project; his last film was “Public Enemies” in 2009, though he did direct an episode and produce HBO’s ill-fated horse racing series “Luck.”
Hemsworth is free now due to the delay of Steven Spielberg’s “Robopocalypse.” He’s also attached to star in “In the Heart of the Sea,” Nathaniel Philbrick’s nonfiction account of the 19th century whaling ship Essex disaster. Ron Howard, who directed Hemsworth in next fall’s “Rush,” is said to now be interested in that, but that wouldn’t shoot until the fall. The Mann picture is supposed to be aiming for a June production. So happy happy schedule timing for Hemsworth.
