Michael Fassbender will get in trouble...again.
Is it me or does “The Counselor” sound more like a CBS procedural drama than a movie project that boasts such names as Cormac McCarthy, Ridley Scott, and Michael Fassbender to star? Oops, just spilled the news (in case you didn’t get it from the post title)–Deadline says that the rumors have turned out to be true. Michael Fassbender will star in “The Counselor,” which was written by McCarthy and has Scott set to direct. Fassbender and Scott just worked together on “Prometheus,” to be seen this summer.
Here’s how they’re describing it:
The protagonist is a respected lawyer who thinks he can dip a toe in to the drug business without getting sucked down. It is a bad decision and he tries his best to survive it and get out of a desperate situation.
Oh, so it’s that kind of counselor, like counselor at law. I was hoping for a guidance counselor.
The script is being described as similar in tone to “No Country for Old Men,” which means they need to find their Javier Bardem-like bad guy as soon as possible, since they’re hoping for a May start. Deadline says prospective names include Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper, and Brad Pitt; in other words, someone who usually doesn’t spend a lot of time wearing the villain’s black hat (well, Renner’s dabbled there). Since “Paradise Lost” fell apart, Cooper’s free. Who else can I toss out there? Has George Clooney ever played a really bad guy? That would be fun. Or, when all else fails, I suggest Jason Bateman.
