Michael Caine To Star As ‘Harry Brown’

Michael Caine is one of the best British actors of all time, and seen as a contemporary legend. Not only is he loved for his work on films in the 1960s and 1970s such as The Italian Job and Alfie, but his appearance as Batman’s butler in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight has seen him gain a whole new generation of fans.
One of the most enduring aspects of Michael Caine is his essential Britishness. He’s a cockney wide boy through and through, and brings that cheeky chappy persona through on the big screen in every role he plays. While that may not always be fitting, it looks to be perfect for the new film he’s set to star in.
Variety reports that Caine will star in Harry Brown, a contemporary British crime thriller which sees Caine play the part of a former serviceman. He becomes a vigilante to fight the gangs, guns, and drug culture rife in his local neighbourhood. Emily Mortimer will co-star as a policewoman.
Lionsgate have picked up the UK rights to distribute the movie, while Matthew Vaughn and Kris Thykier will produce. Thykier said:
“‘Harry Brown’ is a modern urban Western that reflects the stark realities of youth crime in the 21st century, both in the U.K. and internationally.”
The film will be shown and heavily promoted at the Toronto Film Festival, with Hanway Films handling worldwide sales of the film that should result from the screening.
