Michael Bay Talks “Transformers 4″

Transformers 4 is progressing.

The “Transformers 4″ info you’ve been dreaming about! Michael Bay talked to the LA Times about the fourth installment in the franchise, which he claims will be the last one. Or at least the last one he’ll be involved in. Or until Paramount offers him a really good deal.

First off, let’s be clear–despite the fact that they’ve got an all-new cast, this is not a reboot.

“It’s not a reboot, that’s maybe the wrong word,” Bay said. “I don’t want to say reboot because then people will think we’re doing a Spider-Man and starting from the beginning. We’re not. We’re taking the story that you’ve seen — the story we’ve told in three movies already — and we’re taking it in a new direction. But we’re leaving those three as the history. It all still counts… ”

There was a time when children’s television shows all seemed to operate on the idea, “No one will notice that this is crappy or completely unoriginal if we set it in space!” It is likely that “Transformers 4″ will hearken back to those days. When asked if the new film might take place somewhere other than Earth, Bay said:

“I think so, yeah, a little,” Bay said. “That feels like the way to go, doesn’t it? I want to go a little off but I don’t want to go too sci-fi. I still want to keep it grounded. That’s what works in these movies, that’s what makes it accessible.”

Bay also said that the budget will be lower on this film than on Transformers: The Dark of the Moon.” Good news if  you’re responsible for paying for this movie!

The fourth Transformers film is set to be released on June 27, 2014.
