McG Talks Possible ‘Terminator Salvation’ Sequels - Bale Is On Board

Terminator Salvation

We’re just a month away from finding out if the future foretold in the original Terminator trilogy ends up coming true or not. We’ll also find out if McG has managed to bring the franchise up-to-date, and whether Christian Bale’s foul-mouthed rant had any bearing on his performance as John Connor. That’s a lot of questions that need answering.

Terminator Salvation is released on May 21st, and according to its director, the success of this movie will determine whether any more sequels are made. This film has supposedly been made with the intention of being the first of a new trilogy but whether that trilogy is completed really depends on the box-office results.

McG told MTV Movies:

“If we have good fortune we have indeed planned out two more ‘Terminator’ pictures. There’s an arc of story [in the new sequels].”

“The ending is indeed elliptical, and it challenges the audience. It’s not a happy little bow of an ending at all. The ending is tough and requires reflection, and in some degrees it bifurcates the audience. You walk back to the car and one person thinks it means this, and the other person thinks it means that.”

“I would never presume there would be another picture - that is up to the audience. But if the audience jumps up and likes it and wants another one, Christian and I have been talking about it and we’ll see what happens. You have to see how the film is received. And that’s in the hands of the fans.”

Unlike McG, I would presume there will be more Terminator movies. There’s a ton of buzz surrounding this film and only a really bad early reception and terrible reviews would see Terminator Salvation not make an absolute killing at the box office. And Christian Bale will shout and swear at anyone who gives it a bad review. Which will help.

We heard a year ago how Bale had signed up for three movies and I would place a huge bet that they will all happen. I’m just hoping Terminator Salvation lives up to the hype. It certainly looks good but then so did Terminator 3 and that ended up boring the hell out of me.
