‘Marvin The Martian’ Movie On Way

‘Marvin The Martian’ Movie On The Way

When a secondary character in a cartoon gets his own movie, is it time to start worrying about the state of the movie industry? No, that’s harsh, but it’s the first thing that came in to my head when I read the news that Marvin the Martian is going to be starring in a new feature.

You probably remember Marvin - he’s that, well, Martian who appears in many Looney Tunes shorts. He was also in Baby Looney Tunes and Duck Dodgers, and also made an appearance in that Godawful movie, Space Jam. Geez, listen to me talking like he’s Robert De Niro.

According to Variety, Warner Bros. is developing the feature alongside Alcon Entertainment. The film will blend live action with CGI, so imagine a more technically advanced version of Who Framed Roger Rabbit or indeed, Space Jam. Writers and directors are currently being sought by Alcon.

The film is likely to follow the plots of the cartoons with Marvin planning on destroying Earth, just this time he wants to destroy Christmas. So a December release date is highly likely. The film will rather obviously be aimed at the family market, the same kind of demographic as enjoyed Racing Stripes and My Dog Skip, two previous Alcon films.
