Marvel Studio Exec Kevin Feige Talks “Ant-Man,” “Dr. Strange”

By Kirsten Anderson Movie News

Dr. Strange looks like he really had fun putting together his costume.

We have an array of Marvel movies coming out over the next year or so, filling out what Marvel head Kevin Feige likes call “Phase 2″–”Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy, and a second “Avengers” movie. Those movies are all in various stages of development, from “finished” (“Iron Man 3″) to “working on script” (“Avengers 2), which means Marvel is ready to focus on “Phase 3.”

The furthest along of the Phase 3 projects is probably “Ant-Man.” Feige said to MTV:

“‘Ant-Man’ is definitely part of Phase Three,” Feige explains. “Like ‘Iron Man 3,’ it’s certainly set in the Marvel Universe, but it’s also through the lens of Edgar Wright — which is the only reason we’re making the movie… It’s very much an ‘Ant-Man’ origin movie from the perspective of Edgar Wright and his co-writer Joe Cornish. It will of course be firmly planted in the MCU, but a different corner than we’ve seen before.”

It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for “Ant-Man.” I swear I’ve been hearing about it for at least four years, maybe longer. I’ll probably faint from shock the day it’s actually released.

Now about another intriguing possibility for Phase 3:

‘Doctor Strange,’ which I’ve been talking about for years, is definitely one of them,” Feige continues. “He’s a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he’s totally different from anything else we have, just like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ He’s totally different from anything we’ve done before, as is ‘Ant-Man,’ which keeps us excited.”

If you want to learn more about Dr. Strange, check out his lengthy, detailed Marvel bio. I’d really love to see this one happen.

Just for your reference, here are release dates for the Phase 2 movies: ” Iron Man 3″ on May 3, 2013, “Thor: The Dark World” on November 8, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014, “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014 and, finally, “The Avengers 2″ on May 1, 2015.
