Marvel Calendar Update: Spider-Man 4 to May 2011

Peter Parker tries to remember how this thing works.

I know, just when you thought it was safe to make vacation plans for two or three years in the future. Well, never mind, Marvel Studios has made it necessary for us all to readjust your plans for 2011 and 2012. According to Variety, the comics film powerhouse has slotted “Spider-Man 4″ into the May 6, 2011 weekend. Then “Thor” will open on June 17th, 2010, and “The First Avenger: Captain America,” will debut on July 22nd, 2011. And as you might have guessed, that bumps the multi-heroed “The Avengers” from July 15, 2011 to May 4, 2012.

Whew! Got all that? I guess it’s no surprise that it’s taking a little longer than originally thought to spool out the whole lead-in to “The Avengers.” Marvel undoubtedly wants to make sure that all the pieces are in place to make that one the blockbuster to top all blockbusters. Of those movies, though, the only one I’m really interested in is “Thor.” I love that Kenneth Branagh’s directing. He always has so much fun in everything he does.

As for “Spider-Man 4,” well, I’m glad it actually has a date and seems for real. “Spider-Man 3″ had multiple negative issues (many based around the multiple villains); I’d hate to see the franchise fade out on that note.
