This is one of the crazier casting stories you’ll hear. First there were rumors that Mark Wahlberg was going to star in “Transformers 4,” which director Michael Bay quickly squashed, saying that he and Wahlberg, who just starred in Bay’s “Pain and Gain,” were actually talking about another project. But then Bay kind of said, “Well, we’re still thinking about the story for T4 and those rumors have given me ideas…” And now we get the official word that Wahlberg will star in “Transformers 4.” Thank you, wisdom of the crowd.
Here’s an excerpt from the announcement from Bay’s website:
After an exceptionally successful collaboration on the upcoming “Pain and Gain,” Michael Bay has cast Academy Award®-nominee Mark Wahlberg in the highly anticipated “TRANSFORMERS 4.” The film will hit theaters June 27th, 2014.
“Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on “Pain and Gain” and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy,” said Bay.
I have no interest in the “Transformers” movies, but in a weird way it makes me more interested in “Pain and Gain.” Obviously that must have gone really well. That movie will be released on April 26, 2013. “Transformers 4″ is set to be released on June 27, 2013.
