Kellan Lutz will need to brush up on his trident-wielding skills.
Ahoy, matey! Here’s the latest news in movies about the classical era, this time Tarsem Singh’s “War of Gods.” Variety reports that Kellan Lutz–of “Twilight” and “Nightmare on Elm Street” fame–is joining the cast. Other cast members include Henry Cavill, Freida Pinto, and Mickey Rourke. (I got the story from ComingSoon; Variety has a pay wall, so no link for them.)
The film centers around “young warrior Theseus who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind.” Lutz will play Poseidon, god of the sea.
Poseidon’s been a busy god this year, also making an appearance in “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.” It’s enough to make you wonder why there isn’t an Aquaman movie in the works.
It’s so nice to see all those “Twilight” kids trying to establish an identity beyond their vampire selves. Good luck, though. So far Lutz seems like just another pretty boy, like the guy you’d take if Channing Tatum isn’t available.
Speaking of looks, Singh’s movies are always gorgeous looking and have a nice mystical quality, but I’m not sure if the story always hangs together. Maybe this has just the right kind of sword and sandal cliched plot to hold up better under any circumstances.
Oh, and by the way, I am sick already of this rash of Greek gods and goddesses movies, and “Clash of the Titans” isn’t even out yet.
