Lucas Claims ‘Star Wars: Clone Wars’ To Be Like ‘Thunderbirds’

The new Star wars film which is meant to be hitting cinemas in August of this year is already creating quite a buzz. Okay, it’s only animated, and not a real sequel, but still, it’s new material for all the fans to sink their teeth in to.

One man obviously excited by the prospect of another chapter to his saga, and not just for the way it will further bulge his bank balance, is the man behind it all, George Lucas.

Speaking to Empire magazine, and reported here via Digital Spy, Lucas claims the new film will be very stylised and owe a debt of gratitude to the Thunderbirds series.

“[fans can expect] a stylised cartoon, it’s not photo real… it’s in a Gerry Anderson style, Thunderbirds. The characters have painted surfaces – they look like they’ve been painted.”

Which is interesting as the animation on Thunderbirds always struck me as awful, but that’s just my personal opinion. He also spoke about which characters we’ll get to see in the new instalment:

“It’s got everyone. Yoda, The Emperor… everybody that’s in the features is in the animated series. It’s just as if we took the feature and just continued it in an animation style.”

“The live-action show doesn’t have any of the characters from the movies. It takes place at the same time, between episodes three and four, but it doesn’t have anything to do with the Skywalkers.”

“You kind of hear about the Emperor, and it takes place in that world, but it’s like you have the TV shows 24 and The Wire; they’re in the same place but they’re two completely different things.”

George Lucas is a genius but sometimes I just wish he’d keep his mouth shut. Some of the things he says tend to put me off rather than fill me with eager anticipation.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars arrives on August 15th in cinemas all around the globe.
