Listmania! Biggest Flops of the Decade

“Gigli” plus “Jersey Girl” nearly killed Ben Affleck’s career. Now that’s when you know a romance might be a bad idea.
A flop isn’t just a bad movie. Many bad movies get made every year–cheap horror or action movies, bad teen comedies, weepie melodramas. What makes a flop is scale–a flop is a movie that cost a lot of money to make and then earned nothing, or a movie that was conceived with expectations of critical raves and awards that was universally panned.
With that definition in mind, The Hollywood Reporter put together a list of the decade’s biggest flops. I’ll give you the bare list, but I recommend that you go here to see things like the budget, final earnings, etc. for each film–which of course explains why each film was a flop (some titles are no doubt memorable to you as exemplars of Bad-dom).
10. The Spirit (2008)
9. Grindhouse (2007)
8. Rollerball (2002)
7. The Invasion (2007)
6. Catwoman (2004)
5. Town & Country (2001) [check out the gigantic budget on this one]
4. Gigli (2003)
3. Land of the Lost (2009)
2. Battlefield Earth (2001)
1. The Adventures of Pluto Nash (2002)
Wow, that’s enough to make a person want to give up movies forever (not to mention the nightmares it may give me tonight). Feel free to add your own super failures to the list.
