More stars lining up projects at Cannes news! Deadline reports that Liam Neeson is set to star in “A Walk Among the Tombstones,” a book by Lawrence Block. Tombstones, consider your asses kicked. Neeson vs a graveyard of angry ghosts? The score: Neeson 110, Ghosts 0. See that darkly cloaked figure with the scythe running away? Yes, that is the Grim Reaper, trying to avoid a confrontation with Neeson.
Oh, no–sadly, this isn’t that kind of movie at all. Here Neeson will play Matt Scudder, “an ex-NYPD cop and unlicensed private detective and recovering alcoholic. He’s hired to find the kidnapped wife of a drug dealer. In the process, he discovers that the kidnappers have done this before and it has led to brutal murders.”
Scudder, a regular Block character, has previously been portrayed on screen by Jeff Bridges in “8 Million Ways to Die,” a movie that I have always heard is just terrible.
Scott Frank wrote the adaptation and will direct, with production beginning in early 2013.
Neeson has smallish parts in the soon to be released “Battleship” and “The Dark Knight Rises.” He stars in “Taken 2,” which will be out this fall.
