Land of the Lost to be Found Earlier

Land of the Lost

Please make it funny, Will.

Yes, there’s still fallout from the Harry Potter November to July opening date shift. The latest to move is the Will Ferrell comedy Land of the Lost. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lost will now open on June 5th instead of the previously announced July 17th…which of course, is now the date Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is opening.

Universal, which apparently has high hopes for Lost, decided that HP was a train they wanted to run from. No other big movies are opening on the new June 5th date; Fast and Furious, the intriguingly titled article-less fourth entry into the The Fast and the Furious series, has now been bounced by U to June 12th. So mark your calendars accordingly.

My favorite part of the THR article is this phrase: “Based on the classic children’s TV show created by Sid and Marty Krofft…” Classic? Really? Do they mean classically bad? Classic on the Unintentional Comedy Scale? Okay, the show’s theme song was classic, (“Marshall, Will, and Holly/On a routine expedition…”), but other than that it was pretty plodding and shoddy. The Sleestaks are faintly amusing in an ineffective enemy kind of way, but classic? I don’t think so.
