A lot of people really don’t like Michael Bay. A similar number of people really don’t like Shia LaBeouf. And a whole slew of other people hate the Transformers movies. I think this can be considered a good day for all of those people.
The reason for this is MTV News asking Labeouf whether Transformers: Dark of the Moon would be his last Transformers movie as he had previously indicated. He rather succinctly replied:
“For sure. I’m not coming back to do another one. I don’t think Mike [Michael Bay] will either.”
“It is still a hot property I think, especially coming out of the third one. So I imagine they’ll reboot it at some point with someone else.”
Oh, I think we can safely assume this won’t be the last Transformers movie, even if LaBeouf and Bay are moving on. But I would at least hope they give the franchise a rest for a few years to differentiate the Bay era from the set of movies someone else will direct. And I can only imagine if it’s a good director they’ll feel the same way rather than risk being tarred with the same brush Bay has been using to sweep all the explosive crap he can find onto the screen.
Having thoroughly enjoyed the first Transformers movie, I then hated the second with a passion. At this point I’m not even sure whether I can bring myself to watch the third for fear it’ll be an even bigger mess than Revenge of the Fallen. I guess I will, but I swear I’ll walk out if it sucks.
