Kristen Wiig Gets “Welcome to Me” from Will Ferrell

By Kirsten Anderson Casting

Kristen Wiig will work for, not with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, in "Welcome to Me."

You know, the title on this post isn’t really fair, because it makes it seem like Kristen Wiig is going to star in a movie either with Will Ferrell starring, or perhaps directing. Not quite true, but not a lie–actually, Ferrell and Adam McKay, his partner in their prolific Gary Sanchez Productions, are simply producing the films. I didn’t include McKay’s name in the title because while you could say he’s just as, if not more influential than Ferrell, he is not a movie star, and people are more interested in movie stars than producers or comedy directors.

Wiig will be seen onscreen with Ferrell in “Anchorman: The Legend Continues,” with McKay directing. That movie is just going into production, so it seems like the collaboration must be going well.

“Welcome to Me” was written by Eliot Laurence. The Hollywood Reporter describes it as being “about a¬†woman with dissociative personality disorder who wins the lottery and decides to spend her winnings¬† on a cable access talk show about her life.” Shira Piven is set to direct.

If it seems like you haven’t seen Wiig a lot since her hit “Bridesmaids,” well, that’s because she’s been busy making many movies that will all come out, so you will see a lot of her in the near future. Wiig’s upcoming films include “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” “Despicable Me 2,” “Girl Most Likely,” “The Skeleton Twins,” and “Hateship, Loveship.”
