Koechner Joins ‘Final Destination 5′

I have a soft spot for the Final Destination movies. Oh, I know they’re mindless flicks, made up of grisly deaths and faux mythology, but still. So I admit right now that I will be going to see Final Destination 5 at the cinema.

Four new cast members were unveiled a few days ago, including the always-brilliant David Koechner. The other less thrilling additions being Nicholas D’Agosto, P.J. Byrne, and Ellen Wroe.

Final Destination 5 will see its characters once again cheat death only to have it stalk them until they finally succumb. We’ve had plane crashes and motorway pile-ups, but the new film will feature a bridge collapsing in a city full of co-workers on a corporate retreat. Which is, at least, original.

My biggest problem with the film at this point is the name. New Line seems to be insisting it’s going to be called 5nal Destination, which is just terrible. I can see what they’ve tried to do but it clearly doesn’t work. In fact, I read it as Anal Destination the first time I saw it, and that suggests a very different film than the one being produced.

Steven Quale is directing Anal, sorry 5nal Destination, with filming beginning this month.
