We learned at the beginning of 2009 that a new Tomb Raider movie was on its way. It’s going to be a reboot, and have an all-new storyline which doesn’t follow on from the previous two films starring Angelina Jolie.
Jolie isn’t going to be involved, with producer Dan Lin suggesting that a hot new actress will be squeezed into the role instead. Hotter than Angelina Jolie? Does such a woman exist? The latest rumor suggests so, with Kim Kardashian reportedly being lined up to play the new Lara Croft.
Kardashian is, apparently, a former model who now stars in her own reality TV show in the U.S. If that’s the case, it hasn’t yet made its way across to the U.K. in any big way because she’s virtually unknown over here. But that isn’t stopping the people behind the new Tomb Raider movie talking to her about filling Jolie’s shoes. At least, that is, according to ShowbizSpy.
Personally, I call BS on this. Because it doesn’t make any sense, not least because Kardashian isn’t an actress. But there’s more. Jolie was 26-years-old at the time the first Tomb Raider was released, so seeing as Kardashian is 29-years-old, this is hardly a reboot featuring a “younger Lara Croft” as was announced last year.
I don’t think this is true, and if it is then the new Tomb Raider has straight-to-DVD written all over it.
I hope this is wrong.. the only other person I’d like to see playing miss Croft is the original Croft model Rhona Mitra. She’s proved she can play the action woman role and she’s got the accent, demeanor AND she’s hot. Of course she’s not ‘young’ in hollywood terms so it will no doubt go to some 22 year old airhead… totally believable as a world renowned lady of far flung adventure… not.
