Could Mark Ruffalo find himself on 'Planet Hulk?'
For many people, Mark Ruffalo’s take on the Hulk was a pleasant surprise; some felt he almost stole the show. With that in mind, it’s inevitable that there’s been some talk about a stand-alone Hulk movie.
And who better to talk about that than Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios head? In an interview with MTV, Feige was asked about the possibility of future Hulk movies, especially “Planet Hulk,” the series that finds Hulk as the leader of a rebellion on another planet:
“I don’t think there’s a lot that we couldn’t do someday, as the cinematic universe continues to grow and expand and get as big as the comic book universe…’Planet Hulk’ is a cool story. ‘World War Hulk’ is a cool story.”
If there is a Hulk movie, it’s going to be a while before it happens:
“Do I think Hulk can carry a movie and be as entertaining as he was in ‘Avengers’? I do believe that. I do believe he absolutely could. We certainly are not even going to attempt that until ‘Avengers 2,’” said Feige. “So there’s a lot of time to think about it.”
“The Avengers 2″ is slated for 2015. That means a Hulk movie would probably have to wait until about 2017…when Ruffalo will be turning fifty. Will he still be interested in the role? I guess Hulk is CGI enough that it’s not like he’d be doing tons of stunts. Feige would certainly have to hope that he still wants to do the part, as they liked his take on it:
“Part of what’s fun about the way we played him in ‘Avengers’ is the ensemble quality of it. I think the pathos and humor, most importantly, that Mark and Joss brought to it showcased a different element of Hulk that’s there in the comics, and was always inherent in his character. But when he was so brooding in his other two films, he didn’t get to have that wry sense of humor that Mark did such an amazing job performing.”
“The Avengers” is out on DVD this Tuesday, September 25th.
