Keri Russell Joins “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”

Keri Russell will do something in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes."

“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” has been busily adding cast members, and while we’re excited about the return of Andy Serkis, and the arrival of Jason Clarke, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Gary Oldman, that group is noticeably lacking in female presence. Well, problem solved–Variety reports that Keri Russell has joined the cast.

Although her thriller “Dark Skies” bombed at the box office, Russell has been having small screen success with her FX series “The Americans.” She’ll also be seen later this year in “Austenland,” which premiered at Sundance.

No word on who she will play, but we know there are scientists and apes involved, so it’s likely that she’s a scientist–unless she’s going to be the female counterpart to Serkis and give a stellar motion-capture performance.

Matt Reeves is directing and Scott Z. Burns and Mark Bombeck have written drafts of the script. “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” is set for a May 23, 2014 release.
