Kenneth Branagh will direct and destroy the world's economy.
What do you do if you’re the director of a movie and you can’t quite find the right actor for a role? You know exactly what you want the performance to be like, how you want the lines to sound, what kind of presence you want the actor to bring to the role, but you can’t quite find the right person. If only you could find someone like…like…you. Wait! Why not cast yourself?
Okay, Kenneth Branagh was indeed already booked to direct the new Jack Ryan movie but I don’t know if he cast himself as the villain. If he did, though, it was a pretty good idea. In the movie, Chris Pine is set to play Tom Clancy’s action hero, who in this story will be “a financial analyst living in Moscow who uncovers a terrorist plot.” Branagh will play “Viktor Stazov, a financial wiz who, with the help of the Russian government, masterminds a plot to devalue American currency and thus destroy the U.S. economy.” I imagine some scenery being gleefully chewed, as they used to say.
Branagh has acted in films he also directed before to great success, so he’s up to the task. Now if this will only just actually happen; there have been an awful lot of false starts along the way with this Jack Ryan project.
