Rooney Mara will get to hang out with Freddy Krueger.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Kellan Lutz, Thomas Dekker and Rooney Mara have joined the cast of New Line’s remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” Jackie Earle Haley is already set to play Freddy Krueger. (And in the interest of fairness, Bloody-Disgusting reported Mara’s casting on Wednesday.)
Lutz will play the local Big Man on Campus/star jock type. Lutz, of course, has already locked himself into teen immortality by playing Emmet Cullen in “Twilight.” He’s currently filming “New Moon,” the second “Twilight” film.
Dekker is most famous for his role in “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” on TV. He’s made quite an impression from that show…for the eight people who watch it. He’s hitting the big screen soon in “My Sister’s Keeper,” with Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin.
Mara will play all-American girl next door Nancy Thompson, the role played by the immortal Heather Langenkamp in the original films. Mara had a role in “Urban Legends: Bloody Mary,” but is moving up in the world with a part in “The Winning Season” with Sam Rockwell and “Youth in Revolt” with Michael Cera. She’s the sister of Kate Mara, and for those of you who are interested in such things (and I am), they are from the NFL royalty Mara and Rooney families. The Maras own the New York Giants and the Rooneys own the Pittsburgh Steelers. Those are a couple of girls who know their way around a Super Bowl ring.
