Keira Knightley will be rescued by Jack Ryan.
Casting news! The Hollywood Reporter says that Keira Knightley is in talks to star alongside Chris Pine in what we fondly refer to as “The Untitled Jack Ryan Movie.” Kenneth Branagh will direct and play the villain. Kevin Costner is rumored to be up for a role as well.
The film is a prequel to the popular Jack Ryan books written by Tom Clancy. The character previously was played on screen by Alec Baldwin (“The Hunt for Red October”), Harrison Ford (“Patriot Games,” “Clear and Present Danger”), and Ben Affleck (“The Sum of All Fears”). The story will “focus on ex-Marine and Moscow-based financial analyst Jack Ryan (Pine), who uncovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the U.S. economy. Ryan must race against time to save America and his wife (Knightley).” In that order, Ms. Knightley!!
Knightley hasn’t really done the “wife/girlfriend in jeopardy” thing in an action thriller, but I guess every Hollywood actress finds herself just stuck with few other options at some point. She’ll be seen in more familiar territory in the title role in “Anna Karenina” in November.
