Karl Urban Cast as Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy in Star Trek

According to Ain’t It Cool News, New Zealand-born actor Karl Urban has been cast as Dr. Leonard McCoy in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. There is no official confirmation as yet, but the AICN source says it’s “pretty much a done deal”. Urban had been rumored to be playing the movies villain, Nero, but that role ended up going to Australian actor Eric Bana.

Urban rounds out the main cast which includes Chris Pine (James Kirk), Zachary Quinto (young Spock), Leonard Nimoy (old Spock), Eric Bana (the villain Nero), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Anton Yelchin (Chekhov), Zoe Saldana (Uhura) and John Cho (Sulu).

Star Trek is scheduled for release on Christmas Day 2008.
