According to Variety, Jaden Smith will star in a remake of The Karate Kid. Smith, age ten, is the son of Will Smith. He made his film debut alongside dad in The Pursuit of Happyness (2006). The younger Smith is said to be a martial arts enthusiast.
I’ve already expressed my worries about this idea, and this phrase from the Variety article seems to confirm them: “…the film will shoot next year in Beijing and other cities.”
Yes, apparently the little movie about the kid who moves to a new town and learns to protect himself from bullies will now be an international epic. I fail to see the charm.
