Justin Theroux Will “Swear to God”

Justin Theroux will take charge of Will Ferrell and Steve Carell.

Hey, what’s going on with the world of comedy? Let’s see. Hey,  Deadline reports that Justin Theroux will direct “Swear to God,” a comedy script written by Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland. Well, was written by them–Theroux will rewrite it, which probably isn’t a bad idea; Cohen and Freedland wrote “Due Date” and Theroux wrote “Tropic Thunder,” so I have to give the win to Theroux.

Oh, there’s more news. Will Ferrell and Steve Carell are already set to star.

Here’s the story: “Ferrell will play a narcissist hedge manager who believes that God has spoken to him.”

That was easy. It feels like this story has been done eight million times before, but I guess we’ll let these guys have their whack at it. Ferrell’s comedy “The Campaign” is opening today and Carell’s straight man gig in Meryl Streep’s “Hope Springs” opened a few days ago. And this isn’t the only directing job on the horizon–he wrote the script for the long awaited “Zoolander 2″ and is reportedly up for the directing job there…if that ever happens. Seriously, “Zoolander 2″ might need to be about geriatric models. Theroux was seen onscreen in last spring’s “Wanderlust.”

“Swear to God” will likely go into production next July.
