Joss Whedon Unsure About “Avengers 2″

Joss Whedon may not stick around for "The Avengers 2."

Many people thought Joss Whedon’s script and directing played a big part in  “The Avengers” success. However, speaking at a Comic-Con panel for “Firefly,” Whedon said he hasn’t decided if he will direct what we will call “The Avengers 2.”

The thing, though, is that Marvel hasn’t announced any definite plans for a sequel to “The Avengers.” It could be for 2015 or even 2016. Maybe Whedon doesn’t want to be tied down to it.

So what if Whedon decides not to direct “The Avengers” sequel? Who should direct? Marvel’s known for surprise director choices, but Whedon was probably one of the least surprising–a real comic book insider. It’s hard to think of anyone with a similar background, so it’s likely that Marvel would come up with another outside the box choice. Think indie director or actor beginning to direct. How about some completely random, odd choices? Lynn Shelton. Jeff Nichols. Casey Affleck. Or here’s a wild card–Steven Soderbergh! He hasn’t done the superhero genre and it would be a nice sendoff before he “retires” again.
