If this rumor turns out to be true then it’s bad day for me and my love of Wanted. I thought the first film rocked and was completely geared up for a sequel. And so was everyone else, it seems, except Angelina Jolie.
Vulture is reporting that Jolie has pulled out of Wanted 2, choosing instead to star in Gravity, a space thriller in the mold of Moon to be directed by Alfonso Cuarón.
Fine, Wanted 2 without Jolie will still kick ass. But no, Vulture is also reporting that rather than recast Jolie’s part in the sequel (or possibly prequel given how the original film ended) the studio is pulling the plug on the whole thing.
Which makes no sense to me whatsoever. Sure, Jolie is one of those bankable stars which almost guarantees a film will make money, and she’d leave a sizable void in the sequel. But change the story so that her character plays no part in it, instead casting another hot female assassin to star alongside James McAvoy, who is the real star of the original anyway.
I can’t see this being true. Oh, I’m sure Jolie’s departed the project, but the rest of it, color me unconvinced. But then maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my part as I was intensely looking forward to Wanted 2.
